Oliver West

Oliver West's aviation career has soared through every layer of the industry, from the cockpit to the corridors of power. An alumnus of the prestigious Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Oliver's passion for flight was ignited long before he earned his wings.

Graduating in 1979 with a degree in Aeronautical Science, Oliver quickly ascended the ranks in commercial aviation. His steady hand and cool demeanor made him a natural in the cockpit, piloting everything from regional puddle-jumpers to transatlantic Boeing 747s. Over his 25-year flying career, Oliver accumulated over 20,000 flight hours and a logbook full of adventures that would make even the most seasoned traveler's head spin.

But it was a near-miss incident over the Atlantic in 2004 that changed the trajectory of Oliver's career. Recognizing the need for updated air traffic management systems, he hung up his captain's hat and turned his attention to aviation policy. Oliver's unique blend of hands-on experience and technical knowledge made him an invaluable asset in Washington D.C., where he advised on crucial aviation safety regulations and helped shape the future of air travel.

Now, in what he playfully calls the "third act" of his aviation journey, Oliver has taken on the role of a "professional passenger." Armed with his insider knowledge and a passport full of stamps, he travels the world, experiencing air travel from the other side of the cockpit door. His popular blog, "West's Wings," offers a unique perspective on the airline industry, blending nostalgic tales of the golden age of flight with practical tips for modern travelers.

A frequent speaker at travel conferences and a go-to expert for major news outlets, Oliver breaks down complex aviation topics with the same ease he once navigated turbulent skies. His recent book, "From Takeoff to Touchdown: A Pilot's Guide to Stress-Free Travel," has become a must-read for anxious flyers and travel enthusiasts alike.

When he's not at 30,000 feet, Oliver can be found mentoring young pilots at his local flying club or tinkering with his prized possession - a restored 1956 Cessna 172. He also volunteers with a program that flies veterans to medical appointments, combining his love of aviation with his desire to give back to the community.

With one foot in the golden age of aviation and the other firmly planted in its future, Oliver West continues to be a bridge between pilots, passengers, and policymakers, ensuring that the spirit of flight soars on for generations to come.

Great reads.
