Cave tours are split into the Discovery Tour and the Lantern Tour. The Discovery Tour is all about a peaceful trek through the cave system, learning about geology, and being in awe of beautiful rock formations.

The Lantern Tour is for the more adventurous. On this tour, guests will venture deep into the mountain with only a hand held lantern to guide the way.

Since 2012, this museum has entertained and educated masses of guests about the incredible aviation history of World War II. Guests will learn about technological advancements, see machines out of history books, and so much more.

The museum is split up into three main sections, the aircraft collection, the museum exhibits, and the collection of restored vehicles. Each offers a unique experience and all come together to form a wide view of the important steps taken in this era.

The aircraft collection features 20 fully-restored aircrafts from the World War II era. The museum also features 7 other aircrafts in the time surrounding the war that are important to the era’s history.

Whatever biking adventure you’re looking for, there is a tour for you. The Gold Camp Road tour takes you through historic Gold Camp Mountain where you’ll see mountains and authentic 1800s railways. This is perfect for the adventurous who don’t mind some bumps in the road.

12. Florissant Fossil Beds

Home to one of the most diverse fossil deposits in the world, the Florissant Fossil Beds offer a great learning opportunity. Guests will get to pick their choice of trail to hike on from a multitude, learn about geology, and kids can participate in special kid related fun too.

Hiking trails include the petrified forest loop, an easy trail where guests get to walk through ancient Lake Florissant and see petrified stumps. There’s also wheelchair accessible trails, trails through beautiful meadows, and many more.

For kids, there are several activities to pick from made specifically for them. One such activity is the junior ranger course. Kids will participate in a variety of educational and interactive activities while filling out a book. At the end they will be awarded a junior ranger badge to commemorate their trip.

Take the kids on a journey into the past on this scenic and authentic century-old locomotive. Kids will love hearing the chugging of machinery, the billowing smoke, and atmosphere of this old-timey train ride. They’ll learn history, and have fun while doing it.

The train takes guests on a four-mile round trip filled with beautiful scenery around every corner. The train passes historic mines, stops at special points of interests, and includes an educational narration to teach about the area’s history.

Adults and kids alike are in for a peaceful but fun outdoor trip at the Fox Run Regional Park. Hike multi-use trails, enjoy a picnic together, go horseback riding, and so much more. The park offers interpretive displays and plenty of outdoor fun for everyone.

There’s even a dog park for your furry companion. Cycling and hiking paths will get everyone active, while picnic pavilions and tables will be a great place to relax together after adventuring. There’s also a horseshoe pit, and playground as additional fun options for the kids.

As Colorado’s oldest aviation museum, the Peterson Air & Space Museum has loads of history and information to share. Visit several distinct areas of the museum, each offering a unique perspective on the long history of aviation history.

One section of the museum is Colorado Springs' first passenger airport terminal from 1941. Another section honors air force veterans that won the Medal of Honor. The museum also has several other sections, all offering a great way to teach kids about its history.

One of Colorado’s most unique open spaces, the Paint Mines offer a beautiful vista and opportunity to enjoy a hike. Pick from a variety of trails and enjoy all the views.

View natural bands of color in the rock formations, hike through miles of trails, and learn about the history of the area. Pictures can’t do justice to the unique sights offered at this park.
