When Not To Visit Carlsbad Flower Fields

We don’t recommend visiting Carlsbad Flower Fields from June through February. If you are traveling from out of town to see the flower fields, you’ll be very disappointed. The fields, attractions, and programs are only open during the spring months.

Carlsbad Flower Fields opens at the beginning of March. It will stay open until Mother’s Day weekend. After that, the fields and attractions close down for the year. The farmers will do work year-round to ensure the flowers bloom beautifully the following year.

There are 3 venues at Carlsbad Flower Fields that can be used for private events year-round.

  • Mediteranean Garden
  • The Pavilion

Guest will only be able to visit Carlsbad Flower Fields during the off-season if they are attending an event at one of the venues.

Cheapest Time To Visit Carlsbad Flower Fields

We did some research to find out when the cheapest time in the spring is to visit Carlsbad Flower Fields. If you’re traveling from out of state, the cheapest option is visiting in March. You will find better deals on flights and hotels than in April and May.

When booking flights with most US and international airlines, May through September is considered high season. You will find better discounts on flights throughout March and April.

To get the best deals on plane tickets, make sure you plan your trip in advance. Travelers that start searching for flights 2 or more months ahead of time are able to save more money. You can also get better rates by booking a flight on weekdays.

The cheapest month of the spring season to book a hotel room near Carlsbad Flower Fields is in March. Winter rates are still available during this time of year. More visitors are in the area in April and May, so rates rise during these months.

Best Western Carlsbad by the Sea has low winter rates in March that range from $116 to $140. In April, the rates are between $121 and $152. Rates rise again in May, ranging from $137 to $187. This is much lower than the rates during peak season. In summer, rooms can be as high as $372.

The reason that Carlsbad Flower Fields is only open for the spring season is that the flowers are in bloom for 6 to 8 weeks. This location has over 50 acres of vivid blooming flowers, with nearly every color of the rainbow.

During the last week of March through the first 3 weeks of April, all the rows of flowers will be in bloom simultaneously. At this time, you will be able to see flowers that are in all stages of the life cycle.

Visitors will be able to see flowers that were in bloom for opening week, but now nearing the end of the life cycle. They will also be able to see the baby blooms that will keep the fields beautiful at the end of the season.

The fields at Carlsbad Flower Fields are covered in different colors of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers. There are designated paths that allow visitors to walk through the flowers and take pictures.

Carlsbad Flower Fields isn’t just a field. There are many attractions and activities that occur during the spring when the fields are open. Visitors can enjoy food from the venues, workshop programs, wagon rides, demonstration gardens, and even live music.

If you are planning your visit during May, we strongly recommend you check the season closing dates first. Most years, Mother’s Day weekend will be the last weekend Carlsbad Flower Fields is open. However, this does change on an annual basis.

To give you a better idea of why spring is the best time to visit, we will give you a breakdown of the different events and activities that are only available this time of year.

U-Pick Blueberries

Flowers aren’t the only thing growing in Carlsbad Flower Fields. These expert gardeners also grow blueberries. During the spring, guests can purchase a basket that can hold up to 1-pint of blueberries and pick their own berries.

U-Pick Blueberries has been a very popular attraction at Carlsbad Flower Fields. The gardeners have extended the size of the field to keep up with the demand. There are now 2-acres of blueberry bushes.

Food Stands

Visitors should bring their cameras and an appetite when they visit Carlsbad Flower Fields. There are several delicious food stands open in the spring. You can enjoy a bite to eat while you visit, or bring snacks with you when you leave.

The Strawberry Shack has a lot of scrumptious treats made with strawberries. All berries are locally sourced. To make this spot even more tempting for strawberry lovers, some of the recipes have won awards. Try from a selection of:

Antique Wagon Rides

Wagon ride tickets can be purchased at Carlsbad Flower Fields. A driver will take the guests up a hill. This spot gives them a fantastic view of the fields and allows them to get some excellent photos.

Sweet Pea Maze

The Sweet Pea Maze is an activity that’s just as much fun for kids as it is for adults. This maze is constructed of tall sweet pea flowers, that can grow as high as 2 meters. It is one of the sweetest smelling places to get lost in.

Butterfly Garden

Butterfly Garden is a beautiful spot to appreciate the work that butterflies do to keep flowers blooming. This charming garden is a great spot for a family photo. There is a gazebo, butterfly benches, and butterfly statues.

This area is surrounded by vibrant blooming flowers all spring season. It’s the ideal spot to sit down and enjoy the scenery.

American Flag Of Flowers

For smaller organizations, The Pavilion and Mediteranean Garden are better choices. The Pavilion can host up to 100 people and Mediteranean Garden can host up to 50.

What Is The Hottest Month In Carlsbad?

August is the hottest month in Carlsbad. During this month, the daily average temperature is around 76 F/ 24 C. While days in August are hotter, they aren’t too hot to enjoy an afternoon or evening at one of the outdoor venues at Carlsbad Flower Fields.

During the spring season, the temperatures at Carlsbad Flower Fields range between 62.5 and 66 F/ 17 to 19 C. This is slightly cooler and better weather for walking around than the summer months.

What Is The Coldest Month In Carlsbad?

December is the coldest month in Carlsbad. During this month, nighttime temperatures can get as low as 46 F/ 8 C. This area doesn’t get frost, so it doesn’t affect the plants and flowers at Carlsbad Flower Fields.

The cold season in Carlsbad only lasts for 4 months, between November and April. During the cold season, the average daily high is around 67 F/ 19 C. If you’re from a place that gets annual snowfalls, these winter temperatures may seem very warm.
